How a WAFLO HUB works

Distributed material recovery infrastructure at the source of waste. Trained youth workers recover and sort recyclables at a modular station. Every batch is weighed on an IoT-enabled scale, and each Hub is mirrored by its own digital twin on one shared platform.

Three components
01

Physical Station

Physical recovery infrastructure. Modular workspaces recover, sort, weigh and prepare recyclables closer to where waste is generated.

02

Youth Workforce

Trained local youth run every WAFLO HUB. They learn waste sorting, operate basic waste machines, work to safety standards and earn a monthly income.

03

Digital Twin

Digital operational intelligence. The WAFLO Platform records volumes, tracks movement and destination, and supports operational visibility and reporting for every Hub.

Inside the station

Waste arrives, is sorted by material type, then follows one of two paths: an optional valorization module co-funded by the host, or compaction. Both paths go to packaging, then Data & QA, where material is accepted or rejected and verifiable data is sent to the cloud platform. Accepted material is stored for recyclers to collect.

1

Intake

Waste arrives at the station from the host site and the surrounding community.

2

Sorting

Youth workers separate material by type into colour-coded bins.

3

Two Paths

Valorization module (optional, co-funded by the host: composting, grinding, drying or gasification) or compaction.

4

Packaging

Material is compressed into bales and packaged for transport.

5

Data & QA

Every bale is weighed and quality-checked, then accepted or rejected. Verifiable data is sent to the cloud platform automatically.

6

Storage

Accepted bales wait on pallets while recyclers collect them.

Youth workforce

Each station is run by at least three young people from the community where it is deployed. They are trained in waste sorting and in operating basic waste machines, work to safety standards, and earn a monthly income based on the recovery performance of the Hub they run.

1

Training

Waste sorting by material, basic waste machine operation and safety standards.

2

Operation

Running intake, sorting and baling at the station, shift by shift.

3

Monthly income

Income paid each month, tied to the recovery performance of the Hub.

4

Impact measured

Output recorded on the WAFLO Platform, so impact on youth is measured, not only described.

Digital twin

An IoT-enabled scale weighs each batch and sends the weight to the platform automatically, so weigh data is the single source of truth. The platform turns those weights into the five live values on the twin's top screen.

Live valueFor operationsFor partners
Worker performanceEach shift's output against its target, so WAFLO can train, coach and pay youth fairly for what they recover. This enables us to deliver materials reliably. Partners do not receive this data; we use it to deliver our best.
RecoveryWhat is sorted by material, so WAFLO can tune sorting and plan bales to match recycler demand. This enables us to deliver materials reliably. Partners do not receive this data; we use it to deliver our best.
InventoryBales counted on pallets against the round target, so storage and collection are planned before stock builds up.This enables us to deliver materials reliably. Partners do not receive this data; we use it to deliver our best.
SustainabilityWaste diverted from landfill tracked by material and shift, so WAFLO sees what delivers the most.Hosts and funders get verifiable diversion figures for impact reporting.
EmissionsRecovered weight turned into avoided emissions with standard factors (EPA WARM, compared with landfill), measured the same way at every Hub.Emission figures with a clear method, supporting compliance and research.
For partners

Materials

Sorted scrap bales of PET, LDPE, HDPE, PP, aluminium and paper, recovered at the source and supplied to local recyclers.

Income

Trained youth run every station and earn a monthly income from the recovery work.

Data

Verifiable records for every kilogram. Weights come straight from IoT-enabled scales, so recyclers, partners and funders can rely on the numbers.

Save cost

WAFLO reduces the waste burden for institutions. Where terms are agreed, this can be offered at no cost to qualifying organizations or sites.

The WAFLO HUB is currently in its pilot stage, proving the design on real waste with recovery measured and recorded from day one.
